The Gift
How often do you tell someone how you really feel about them? (The nice things of course!!). Recently I was given a very special gift. My eldest daughter contacted my friends and family and asked them to write down a message about me and send it to her. She then compiled these messages, from all over the world, and put them in a book. Each page was decorated by hand and she added relevant quotes and photos.
Time, love and thoughtfulness were put into this gift. The end result was a beautifully packaged journal full of wonderful, heartfelt messages about me, and what I meant to the person writing the message. I had no idea how much I had touched peoples lives. Reading the journal was empowering, enlightening and inspiring. It bought a smile to my face and filled me with happiness.
I was speaking to a good friend of mine last night, and she was saying she had recently done something similar for her husbands 50th birthday. His reaction was very much the same as mine. He was blown away reading what people thought of him, and deeply touched. His comment was, “it’s like reading what people say after you have passed away, but getting it while you’re still alive”.
Why wait until it’s too late to tell your friends and family what is special about them?
It is an incredibly powerful gift to give someone. A few words about why you like them or what values they have that you admire, can be uplifting.
It costs nothing, but can mean so much.
Why not write your message on a post-it note, or a card. That way it can be kept and treasured.
Don’t under estimate the power of the simple things. Telling someone how wonderful they are can change their day.
I look at my beautiful journal constantly. It reminds me of all the precious people in my life and how lucky I am to have them.
Don’t wait until it’s too late.
